Karma Balm Showcased at Stonyfield Farms Entrepreneurial Institute

April 2010 – Bethlehem, NH — Karma Balm of Bethlehem, NH was recently chosen as a case study for the esteemed Stoneyfield Farms Entrepreneurial Institute held in Concord, NH. For seven years, The Carsey Institute and Stonyfield Farms have hosted this two-day event, which showcases up and coming grass roots companies by providing a forum to receive feedback in the areas of marketing, finance, and corporate structure. Hundreds of small businesses apply for the chance to present and discuss their company’s vision for their community.

Corey Calaio, the CEO and Founder of Karma Balm, was honored to be chosen as a case study and hasn’t stopped smiling since. She took the stage before a select group of expert panelists as well as over 300 business owners, investors, consultants and professionals in attendance.

Gary Hirshberg, CEO of Stoneyfield Farms was the Institute’s moderator and introduced Corey Calaio to the attendees as the epitome of an enthusiastic small business owner. “I was very nervous,” stated Calaio, “but I was able to express my passion for our Company’s socially responsible mission and our steadfast vision of a manufacturing and distribution center located in Bethelehem.” Julie Brundle, of Whitefield, NH, was in attendance as a member of Karma Balm’s Board of Advisors. She stated, “Corey captivated the room with her passion for developing a company that will change the face of corporate America”

Mrs. Calaio’s presentation was followed by in-depth discussion with the panelists, which included leading marketing professionals in the areas of product branding, development, distribution and social media. The study was then turned over to the audience for suggestions; with a virtual waterfall of useful information and strategies to explore and implement.

Moderator, Gary Hirshberg posed the question of Mrs. Calaio, “Have you planned for success?” Calaio smiled widely, and replied with tears welling in her eyes “I’ve never had a doubt. This is not just about me; it’s about us (gesturing to the crowd) and the change each person wants to make in this world, locally and globally.”

As a startup company in its third year, Karma Balm is asking for support from its community through “the buzz”. In June, Mrs. Calaio embarks on a traveling tour to personally introduce Karma Balm and its products to New Hampshire communities throughout the summer. She is looking forward to spreading her contagious vision with passion, providing demonstrations, and distributing product samples and information.

Karma Balm’s unique and rewarding marketing approach continues to prove successful through fundraiser sales that assist other socially responsible organizations. Over the next twelve months, Karma Balm plans to take its products to a national level. This will naturally result in the Company’s vision becoming a reality: to create a workplace within the community of Bethlehem that is more than just typical jobs in manufacturing. Through an environmentally responsible facility, flexible work hours that are family friendly, benefits that include Holistic Health, company shares for all employees, and most importantly a feeling of wholeness and equality. Mrs. Calaio seeks to create “A Karma Balm Way of Life” where every employee and position is respected and rewarded for their contribution, be it as a filler, office worker, packer or top executive.

Karma Balm would like to give a very special thank you to the Stonyfield Entrepreneurial Institute for the opportunity to present as a case study this year. Mrs. Calaio surmised the event as “a life changing experience and humbling honor to be able to share strategies and my ultimate vision for Karma Balm, my community, and my world”.

Karma Balm’s offices are located on the corner of Park Avenue and Main Street in Bethlehem, NH. For further information contact sales@karmabalm.org or visit www.teamkarma.info

In Karma Balm’s first year on the market, our vision was to bring a quality skin care product to the consumer with a light-hearted, fun, and an environmentally friendly approach. We learned a great deal, using the Open Market as a forum for consumer research. The local community welcomed us, enjoying the “smooth relieving balms with the silly names”.

The most important thing we came away with that first year was the confirmation that we were on the right track. We were ready to move forward with fulfilling our mission by undertaking a bigger responsibility: non-renewable resources.

One of our first objectives was to raise awareness of colony collapse disorder and the importance of honey bees. We coined the term “Live Bee FREE or Dry” and asked all who approached our booth “What’s in your lip balm?” Every single person that flipped their lip balm over to check, discovered that the main ingredient was petroleum, which led to a discussion, followed by the natural outcome of discontinued use of “other balms”. Thus began our huge fan base of dedicated customers that love our super-groovy Seriously Big Lip Balm!

A favorite response was at the farmer’s market one bright and sunny Saturday morning. After purchasing a lip balm for the each of them, I watched as an older Nana and her four-year-old great-granddaughter sat basking in the sun, applying it clearly over the majority of their faces. I got such a kick out of watching the two generations fall in love with Karma Balm and making it an experience and not just an application.

We are now well into our second year on the market and continue to evolve, expand and enter into the retail market. We’ve introduced Joint Balm, Booty Balm and Piggy Relief Balm! We will continue to listen to our consumer, to our environment and our hearts; as we constantly strive to achieve our goal of gently aiding Humans, Animals and our Planet, naturally, with every Karma Balm product we produce.
