Our Packaging Choices

The company’s founder, Corey Calaio, has painstakingly taken years to figure out the best way to package our balms. We are a small company aspiring to grow and lead by example in the industry.green-feild

Environmentally friendly packing has always been a primary focus. In the company’s beginning stages when smaller quantities were being ordered, we had to decide on the packaging that would least impact our Earth.

During the consumer research stages, we decided that in order to grow this small company we had to listen to our consumer and put the lip balm in a tube – there was no getting away from using plastic. Yet all hope was not lost! A larger tube was sought out and located, which meant more balm, less packaging, less labels, less energy and less carbon used in shipping. Beyond these great benefits, our consumer would save money overall, due to the size and lessened likely hood of losing the Seriously Big Lip Balm. Our first product was complete – meeting our highest standards and staying true to our mission and goal. It has been a success since its introduction and demand continues to grow for this funky~effective~natural~organic~vegan lip balm!

Prior to this year, all of our other balms were packaged in a glass jar. After careful consideration and market testing we decided to change our balm containers to tin. Although glass is seemingly easier to recycle,  in the event that our containers are not recycled, tin takes approximately 950 years less time to biodegrade than glass!

We emphasize the importance to recycle your containers, yet it is  commonly forgotten that in the recycling process we create waste. Reduction of waste is ultimately most important. In a world of excess, what constitutes a need should be considered.

Questions to ask yourselfdump

  • Was this item created ethically, and from materials that are renewable?
  • Do I need this item or upgrade?
  • Does this item have multi purposes, or can have a different purpose after I use it for its original purpose?
  • Will this item be easily recycled, or given a new life to someone else?
  • Is its purpose for 6 months, 6 years or 60 years?

Although Karma Balm wants to expand and grow, we do not want to create a multitude of balms for single purposes. Our goal for each balm is that they are multi-functional, thereby reducing the waste in production, distribution and consumption which ultimately reduces our cost to create the balm and reduces your cost to purchase the balm.
